Organisation
WSI (Warmblood Studbook of Ireland) is an Irish studbook organization specializing in the breeding of showjumping and eventing horses, and with an interest in dressage horses. Performance, durability, and attractive conformation are the most important traits on which the international success of the Irish Warmblood is based. WSI is a Full Member of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH).
The Irish Warmblood Horse
The Irish Warmblood is an Irish-bred sport horse with international appeal. It is willing, fearless, physically and mentally strong, and bred to perform at the highest level. It is also reliable, easy to handle, and pleasing to the eye. Because of WSI’s breeding policy, the Irish Warmblood horse possesses a sound mind in a sound body. The combination of sport aptitude and an uncomplicated temperament make these horses unique and very popular at all levels of equestrian sport and breeding.
World-Class Sport and Hobby
With complete conviction and enthusiasm, WSI strives to achieve its goal: to breed modern sport horses that perform at the top level of international equestrian sports. Likewise, we aim to breed healthy horses that happily and easily do what is expected of them. However, WSI does not focus exclusively on world-class sport; after all, most riders do not have the ambition or opportunity to actively participate in equestrian sports as professionals. Therefore, the temperament of Irish Warmbloods is just as important as its sport talent because ultimately everyone prefers a good, willing horse.
Breeding Directions
The goal of WSI is the breeding of horses that can perform at Grand Prix level in showjumping and dressage and 4* level in eventing. In order to reach this goal, a horse must have a good constitution, a functional and preferably attractive conformation/appearance, correct movement, and an agreeable character.
Since 2016 WSI has distinguished three breeding directions: Showjumping, Eventing, and Dressage. Each breeding direction has its own additional objectives but all share these common objectives:
- breeding a competition horse that can perform at Grand Prix/4* level
- with a constitution that enables long usefulness
- with a character that supports the will to perform as well as being friendly towards people
- with functional conformation and a correct movement mechanism that enables good performance
- with attractive exterior that is preferably attractive, along with refinement, nobility and quality.
