2020 PlanIt takes about a decade for a breeder to produce an international showjumper: one year planning a breeding; one year waiting for a foal to be born; and eight years for the horse to receive the education and experience needed to succeed in international sport.
The 2020 Plan is WSI's vision for our first decade.
Our Goals for 2020: To be ranked in the world's top 10 showjumping studbooks.
Among all studbooks to have the highest percentage of horses that are international showjumpers (number of international showjumpers / number of registered horses 8 years of age and older).
Among all studbooks to have the highest percentage of stallions registered in the Studbook that are international showjumpers (number of Approved Stallions 8 years and older registered in the Studbook that compete in international showjumping / number of Approved Stallions 8 years and older registered in the Studbook).
Among
all studbooks to have the highest average number of international jumpers
sired per Approved Stallion registered in the
Studbook (number of international showjumpers / number of Approved Stallions with progeny 8 years of age and older registered in the Studbook).
Strategy for 2020: Build a concentrated genetic pool of stallions and mares with proven performance bloodlines.
Continually upgrade the population of stallions and mares through careful selection.
Regularly assess stallions and mares through progeny evaluations and cull when necessary.
Maintain a disciplined long-term approach and not be swayed by fashion or fads.
Build a community of breeders that embraces WSI's goals and freely shares knowledge and experience with fellow breeders.
